Panthers Guest Concept And Monochrome Sharks

Florida Panthers, by Justin S:
We start off today with a unique Panthers De-Edge concept by Justin.  The unique part of this concept are the claw marks on the sleeves.  Those claw marks are basically the only stripes on the jerseys, as the sleeve cuffs would disappear under the gloves and the blue along the hem would blend into the pants (assuming these jerseys would still go with blue pants).  I think that's a good decision, if you going with something unique like the claw marks you might as well make it the main feature of the concept.  There are a few things I would change though, first of all I'd keep the white outline around the main logo on the red jersey, and I'd also change the name and numbers on the white jersey to red.  The yellow numbers just aren't bold enough in my opinion, and I also think the white jersey is currently lacking red which would be helped by the red numbers.  I noticed one execution error, there appears to be another jersey underneath of the red jersey.  You can see this at the end of a couple of the sleeves and also by the collar.  A quick check when you complete a concept should catch those minor errors.

San Jose Sharks Third:
Back when I was doing my De-Edge Series I tried a Sharks third jersey concept using just teal and white.  I ended up going with a black third jersey instead, but the idea of a monochrome jersey for the Sharks stuck in my head.  The striping pattern is inspired a bit by the striping pattern on their new jerseys (non-symmetrical sleeve stripes, no real hem stripes), but I did add sleeve cuffs and hem trim.

My Thoughts: Canucks 2001-06 Third Jersey

It's time for another post where I discuss my thoughts on a topic, which I cleverly call "My Thoughts" (it's the same as what other people call opinion posts or rants).  Today I'm discussing the Canucks 2001-06 third jersey.  Before I get started though, I should warn you that I have a lot of nostalgia for this jersey, so my opinion is going to be very biased.

The reason I have a lot of nostalgia for this jersey is not only because I'm a big Canucks fan and the Canucks were wearing this jersey when I was really getting into NHL hockey, but also because I got this jersey jersey as a Christmas gift as a kid signed by Markus Naslund (and I also later on met Markus Naslund while wearing this jersey).  Here is a photo of that jersey...

My opinion is that this jersey, the Canucks 2001-06 third jersey, is the perfect third jersey.  Think about it, it's a very unique jersey with that gradient from red to blue, but it still has everything that makes up a good traditional hockey jersey (hem stripes, sleeve stripes, and a shoulder yoke).  It also fit in perfectly with the Canucks home and road jerseys from that era, but it looked different from their regular dark jersey.  That's something I hate about the Canucks current home and third jerseys, they look so similar from a distance that I often don't even realize the Canucks are wearing their third jersey until a few minutes into a game.  Back when I was a kid I would immediately know the Canucks were wearing their third jersey, and I loved that, it was always a pleasant surprise seeing the Canucks take the ice in those third jerseys.

Now backtracking a bit, I want to clarify that when I call this jersey the perfect third jersey I don't mean it was the best third jersey ever.  I'm just saying it has everything one could want in a third jersey (at least everything I want in a third jersey), and it was still able to look good in my opinion.

Those are my thoughts on the Canucks 2001-06 third jersey, feel free to leave your own thoughts in the comments.  Also I plan on doing a "My Thoughts" post for both the Olympic hockey jerseys and the NHL outdoor game jerseys, but I will wait until after the Olympics are done to do the Olympics jersey post, and until after all the NHL outdoor games are done to do the outdoor jersey post.

Lastly, I've added this jersey to the "My Jersey Collection" page.  The only reason it wasn't there before is because the jersey is a youth small, therefore I'd look pretty goofy if I tried to wear it and I reasoned if I couldn't wear jersey it isn't really part of my jersey collection (but I changed my mind about that now).

Have a good day!

Maryland Guest Concept

Maryland Hockey Club, by Ricky:
First of all I know nothing about University hockey, so I had to do a bit of googling to find out a bit about this team.  From what I found, I believe they currently wear the same template of the Red Wings, but I also saw another white jersey that uses the flag as Maryland as a shoulder yoke design.  Ricky goes in the latter direction with his concept, using the Maryland flag not only on the shoulder yokes but also on the arms.  He also sublimated the flag within the numbers, which is my favourite part of this concept.  The attention to detail in this concept is great, like the "FEAR THE TURTLE" motto written inside the collar, and the Maryland flag on the back of the collar.  The overall execution is really good too, the only downside about this concept is that the design is really busy, but that is unavoidable when using the Maryland flag.

Lightning Fix

Tampa Bay Lightning:
I think the Lightning's jerseys could use a few tweaks, so I made this concept.  Here is a list of what I did...
  • Added contrasting shoulder yokes to make their striping pattern look less like the Red Wings (another reason is because I liked the yokes on the Lightning's original jerseys).  The shape of the yoke is different than the standard Edge yoke, so it would be unique to the Lightning.
  • Used a lighter shade of blue, to make them look less like the Leafs.  I also removed the black, because it just looks like an afterthought on their current uniforms.
  • Brought back the victory stripes.
  • Removed the "TAMPA BAY" wordmark from the logo on the road jersey.
  • Lace up collar switched for a normal collar.
That's all I did, the rest is the same as their current jerseys.

Have a good day!
