Metropolitan Division De-Edge Vintage Jerseys

The Metropolitan Division part of the vintage jersey program for my De-Edge is here!

Carolina Hurricanes Vintage Set:
The Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in these jerseys in 2006.

Columbus Blue Jackets Vintage Set:
This is the Blue Jackets original jersey set.

New Jersey Devils Vintage Set:
I also went with the Devils original jersey set, which they wore from 1982-92.

New York Islanders Vintage Set:
The Islanders won four cups in a row (from 1980-83) wearing these jerseys.

New York Rangers Vintage Set:
The Rangers wore this set from 1951-63.

Philadelphia Flyers Vintage Set:
Two Cups were won by the Flyers (1974, 1975) while wearing this set.

Pittsburgh Penguins Vintage Set:
The Penguins also won two Stanley Cups (1991, 1992) wearing this set.

Washington Capitals Vintage Set:
These are the basically the jerseys the Capitals entered the league wearing, but this exact set was worn from 1987-90.

Do you like my choices of jerseys?  Do you hate my choices of jerseys?  Feel free to let me know.

Have a good day!

Hurricanes De-Edge Third

I'm not doing a De-Edge third jersey for Calgary, so here are the Hurricanes.

Carolina Hurricanes Third:
I went a bit crazy here with gradients and the hurricane-flag pattern.  The home and road had a more traditional look, so I wanted to try something out there for the third jersey (the Hurricanes have only been around since 1997, so I don't think they should look traditional all the time).  The equipment is all new for this jersey, but I used the same font as the primary jerseys.

Full Set:
Here's the full set.

Thanks for visiting.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update:  I guess I didn't go crazy enough with the gradients and hurricane-flag pattern, as both Tyler Gross and Jake88 suggested I use more.  Tyler thought I should use the hurricane-flag pattern on the pants, Jake88 agreed with him and suggested I put it on the socks as well.  I tried both those changes and liked them, so here is the updated Hurricanes third jersey.

Thank you to both Tyler Gross and Jake88 for the suggestions.

Carolina Hurricanes De-Edge

This De-Edge concept kind of doubles as my Hurricanes jersey fix.  Although to be honest when I started this concept I wasn't trying to make it similar to their new jerseys, it just kind of happened.

Carolina Hurricanes:
The first thing I did was put the hurricane-flag pattern back on the hem.  Then I decided to keep the fonts and name-in-shoulder-yoke from their current jerseys.  After that I experimented lots with the rest of the jersey, trying to find the best look.  It ended up looking quite similar to their new jerseys but that wasn't intentional.  Below you can see some of the sleeve striping patterns I tried out.

As you can see, the sleeve striping pattern I ended up using on the red jersey is just the hurricane-flag striping without the black squares or perpendicular lines.  The white jersey is then a recoloured version of those stripes.

Feel free to leave any comments, as always I'll try out any suggestions you may have.

My Thoughts: New Storm

So the Hurricanes just unveiled new home and road jerseys, the first major change since the teamed moved from Hartford in 1997.  I know you all already know this, so this post isn't reporting the changes, it's my thoughts on the changes.

First I want to talk about the teaser picks the Hurricanes were posting on Instagram.  I think that was a great idea, it was fun trying to piece together what the jerseys would look like from the pictures.  It was also cool waking up in the morning knowing there was going to be a new photo.  The Hurricanes marketing team did a great job with this in my opinion.

And now on to the actual uniforms, which I don't think the Hurricanes did as good as a job with.  I don't mind them getting new jerseys, the old ones were around for 15 years and were starting to look a bit dated, but the new jerseys look a bit too traditional.  It's also a bit weird that the jerseys don't match at all, I think it would have been better if the red jersey looked more like the white.  In my opinion the red jersey looks too similar to Team Canada's jersey, and is lacking some much needed black accents.  Also I miss the Hurricane striping pattern, it was such a unique element that is now hidden in the collar.  There are a few things I do like, including the unique shoulder yoke on the white jersey which extends down beneath the NOB.  I also like the new fonts used for the NOB and numbers.  The smaller crest also looks good (although it is a bit high up on the jersey).  Overall I'd give these Jerseys a 7/10, and in my opinion it's a downgrade from their previous jerseys.

I'll have another post like this for the Stars unveiling later today, so stay tuned for that.  Thanks for visiting.

Updated Hurricanes

Remember my Hurricanes concept a couple of posts ago?  Last Wednesday it was featured on Icethetics, and after reading some of the comments over there I've updated it.

Carolina Hurricanes:
For the update I added white to the sleeves and hem of the home jersey, and silver to the striping on both jerseys.  I also used their current font for the names and numbers.

Simple Hurricanes

Carolina Hurricanes:
With rumors of new home and road jerseys for the Hurricanes next year, I wanted to simplify their current jerseys.  Silver is almost completely removed from their colour scheme, and the striping is simplified.

Grey Hurricanes

Carolina Hurricanes:  I wanted to try a grey jersey, and I thought the Hurricanes were a good team to test it out.  It also features a chest stripe.

Thoughts?

Flames, Canes, and Hawks

I'm Continuing the NHL Redesign today with the Flames, Hurricanes and Blackhawks.  I hope you like the colour red, because there's lots of it.

Calgary Flames:  The home and road jerseys are an updated version of their pre-edge set.  The third is a darker red, complete with red pants, gloves and helmets.  For the shoulder patch I updated the old Calgary Cowboys logo (in my imagination the Flames would buy the Cowboys logo, similar to what the Vancouver Canucks did to the Millionaires logo).

Carolina Hurricanes:  The home and road have very minor changes.  The third has a more classic striping pattern (because the home and road are already pretty un-traditional), and feature sublimated hurricane-stripes.

Chicago Blackhawks:  The Home and road stay the same, except the helmet logo faces forward.  I added a throwback jersey that would only be worn five times a year.  It is white so it could be worn on the road or at home.

Next up for the NHL Redesign are Colorado, Dallas, and Detroit.  If you're wondering what has happened to Columbus, they've been renamed.
