What If? - Winnipeg Jets

As promised here is my what if post for the original Winnipeg Jets.  This post is a timeline about what they might have looked like if they never moved to Phoenix.  To see what they looked like before they moved check out both www.whauniforms.com and The Hockey Uniform Database.

1999-2007:  The Jets would keep their classic jerseys until 1999.  Before the 1999-2000 season the Jets would update their uniform's.  The blue became navy, silver was added to the colour scheme, and the striping pattern changed up a bit.  They would keep these jersey until the Reebok Edge takeover in 2007.

2007-2011:  A few changes were made to the jersey during the switch to the Reebok Edge cut.  Front numbers were added, the collar changed, and the armpits became silver.

2011 Heritage Classic:  The Winnipeg Jets hosted the Montreal Canadians in the 2011 Heritage Classic.  They wore replicas of their 1976 WHA uniforms, the first year they won the Avco Cup.

2011-Future:  The previous years Heritage Classic jersey becomes their full time third jersey.

Note:  This isn't necessarily what I would have wanted them to do, this is my prediction of what they could have looked like.

Anaheim Revisited

Here is post two of my Revisited Series.  This time it's for the Anaheim Ducks.

Original Concept:  I wanted to try a Ducks concept using green and orange.  I used their Mighty Ducks logo and a very simple striping pattern.

Revisited Concept:  To update this concept, I used an Anaheim Ducks striping pattern, brightened up the colours (looking at them now I probably made the green too bright), and added shoulder logos.

Justin suggested that the colours were too bright.  I agree with him, so here's an updated version with darker green.

Two Concepts

Remember back in June when I posted about what the Quebec Nordiques might look like if they never moved.  I said back then that I might do the same for the original Winnipeg Jets, and I have now started working on that.  Expect that post sometime this week.

A few weeks ago Ryan posted a Florida Panthers concept on HJC.  I really liked the look of the logo, and used it as inspiration for a few concepts.  These were already posted on HJC, but I'll post them here anyways.

Chicago Blackhawks:  I was going for a retro look for this jersey, with lots of stripes.  I took inspiration from their current road jersey, their 1957-58 white jersey (logo on the sleeve stripes), their 1926-27 jersey, and the Chicago Cougars jerseys.  I also used red pants and their retro logo (with some modifications).

St. Louis Blues:  I wasn't going for a retro look for this jersey, but I did use their old trumpet logo (again with some modifications though).  I used their double blue colour scheme, but without any yellow.  The striping pattern is modelled after their 1998-2007 jerseys.  (I got some suggestions when this was posted on HJC saying I should add yellow.  I agree it would be more realistic, but when I tried I couldn't get it to look right).

Colorado Revisited

This is the first post of a new series on SG-94 where I'll revisit some of my older concepts to (hopefully) make them better.  Up first is Colorado.

Original Concept:  This concept was created in fall of 2011.  I wanted to use a double blue colour scheme because I thought it was colder (avalanches happen in snow).  I also wanted to create a new mountain striping pattern.  (P.S.  Check out what my logo looked like back then).

Revisited Concept:  To improve this concept I did a few things.  First of all, I added burgundy back in to keep with the Avalanche's tradition.  I also changed up the striping pattern to something I think works better.

Bonus Concept:  I then made this concept, which I think would fit better with the Avalanche's current home and road jerseys.

And the winner is...

The voting ended last night for SG-94's logo, and the winner is the sharp-top shield in the green and white colour scheme.

Here are the results of the votes.

Colour Options:
Option 3 - 7 votes (50%)
Option 2 - 6 votes (43%)
Option 1 - 1 vote (7%)

Shield-Top Options:
Option 2 - 9 votes (69%)
Option 1 - 3 votes (23%)
Option 3 - 1 vote (8%)

SG-94 concept:  Since this is a blog about jersey concepts, I had to make a concept with the new logo.  I wanted the striping to be very traditional to match the simple colour scheme.

I will now get to work updating the blog with the new logo.  Thanks to everyone who voted.

Wild Admirals

The voting for SG-94's logo is still going on (side-bar).  The voting ends friday at 11:59pm pacific time.

Minnesota Wild:  A couple of weeks ago Icethetics posted a link about a possible new away jersey for the Minnesota Wild.  I thought I would take a stab at what that would look like.

Milwaukee Admirals, by Alan:  The home and road jerseys look great, good use of the full body logo.  I don't like the third jersey, which is based on the Quebec Nordiques jerseys.  I don't really know why I don't like it, I just don't.  Also it appears that two different shades of black were used.

We Have a Winner!!!

The voting for SG-94's logo lasted one day longer than I wanted it to, but it probably was a good thing because I was very busy yesterday.  Anyway, here are the final results...

Shield Logo - 9 votes (56%)
Puck Logo - 4 votes (25%)
Rink Logo - 3 votes (19%)

Thanks to everyone who voted.  Stage two of the voting is now underway, which is about the details.

Colour Options

Option 1:  The first colour option is what we have currently.  The logo is black on a white background (with the green outline inside of the black) and white on a green background.

Option 2:  The second option stays black on both white and green backgrounds.  The green outline is outside of the black.

Option 3:  The final colour option is a simple green and white colour scheme.  The colours are just switched on different backgrounds.

Shield-Top Options

Option 1:  Again option 1 is what was voted on.  It has a simple curved top.

Option 2:  The second option has a pointed top.

Option 3:  The final option has a flat top.

I'd also appreciate any thoughts you have on these logos.  Is there anything else I need to change?

Voting ends friday at 11:59pm.

Vote for SG-94's Logo

I recently made a new logo, and now I've decided to let you (the readers) vote for which logo I should use for this blog.  Here are the options.

Option 1:  The first option is the current logo, which I call the puck logo (because it features a black circle).

Option 2:  The second option is the one I just made.  It's a shield with the blogs name, crossed hockey sticks, and a maple leaf.

Option 3:  The final option is a variation of the logo I used just before I created this blog. I call it the rink logo (because it's shaped like a hockey rink).

I have a poll on the side of the page which will be up for 5 days.  After that I will post a few variations of the winning logo (different colour options, etc.), and let you choose the final logo.  I would also appreciate any suggestions to improve these logos.

Thanks for reading and voting.

Tiger Stripes

A few weeks ago Petr Hajda emailed me about a Facebook page he created called Make It Ten.  He was wondering if I wanted to submit any of my work, I told him I might send in a concept sometime in the future.  This is the concept I created.

Hamilton Tigers:  Way back in January I sent in this Minnesota Wild concept to HJC.  I thought that striping pattern would work pretty good for the Tigers, so that's what I did (with a few minor updates).  The primary logo is an updated version of their 1923-25 logo.  The third jersey is orange and has tiger-stripes on the arm's.

Here is a better look at the tiger-stripes on the third jersey.

Thanks for visiting.

Football Concepts

CFL Concepts:  I was at the BC Lions vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers game last week, and was wondering what the jerseys would look like as hockey sweaters, so I made this concept.  I think the Blue Bombers jersey transferred to a hockey jersey better.

I'll post some actual hockey concepts in the next few days.  As always, you can leave your thoughts in the comments.

Happy Canada Day!!!

Happy Canada Day!!!  Do you like the Canadian design at the top of the page?

Canada Jersey:  Here is a special jersey for Canada Day, which is inspired by the Canadian Flag, but I made the stripes horizontal because I thought it looked better.

Also, I've decided to add a new tab with a list of other hockey jersey blogs.

Ok, you can go back to reading about free-agency now.

(P.S.  I'm not doing anything special for July 4th, I'll leave that for an American to do).
